10 Self Care Tips + How to Reduce Your Asshole-ness Level in 2022
It can be hard to find time for yourself in the fuckery that is 2022. Between work, family, a never-ending pandemic, and WWIII upon us, it seems like there’s never enough time to just relax and enjoy life.
But taking care of yourself is important — and it’s not selfish, despite what the haters will tell you. When you’re stressed out and run down, you’re not doing anyone any favors. You’re actually probably a huge asshole.
Sit the fuck down, we're about to go through 10 self-care practices that will help reduce stress, promote wellness, and reduce asshole-ness. Follow these tips and you’ll be on your way to a more relaxed, balanced lifestyle! Also, no guarantees, but people will probably like being around you more.
1. Get enough sleep:
Most adults need around seven to eight hours of sleep each night. (Unless you’re me, I need ten and sometimes eighteen). Getting enough rest helps your body and mind recharge so you can take on the next day with more energy. Time this shit out. How long does it take you to fall asleep? What time do you have to wake up? Get in them hours!

2. Exercise:
Exercise releases endorphins, which have mood-boosting effects. A moderate amount of exercise is the key — too much can actually increase stress levels, which is a huge relief for lazy people like me who do the bare minimum.

3. Eat healthy:
Eating nutritious foods helps your body function at its best. When you fuel your body with healthy foods, you have more energy and stamina to take on whatever comes your way. Not sure what to eat? Start with this simple principle — your body likes stuff from the Earth.

4. Take breaks:
When you’re feeling overwhelmed, take a few minutes to yourself to relax and rejuvenate. Step away from your work, take a walk, or just take some deep breaths. Chill out, man.

5. Find a hobby:
Doing something you enjoy can help reduce stress and promote wellness. Hobbies give you an outlet to express yourself and can help you forget about your troubles for a while. By the way, you don’t have to be good at something to enjoy it as a hobby. It’s okay to suck as long as you’re having fun. (That’s what she said).

6. Spend time with loved ones:
Spending time with people who make you feel good can help reduce stress/asshole tendencies. Whether you’re catching up with a friend or spending time with family, quality time with loved ones is always valuable. Even if it’s your cat.

7. Make time for yourself:
It’s important to schedule some “me” time into your life. Dedicate an hour or two each week to do something you enjoy, without obligations or distractions. Take a bath, go to one of those ax-throwing places, get a pedicure, go for a walk, or trip balls in a tube floating down a river if you must. Even if that river is actually your bathtub.

8. Disconnect from technology:
Technology can be a major source of stress and increased asshole tendencies. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, take a break from your devices and disconnect from the digital world. I said lay off the memes, Rachel.

9. Meditate:
Meditation is a great way to focus on the present moment and let go of stress. Even just a few minutes of meditation can help you feel more calm and collected.

Never meditated before? Try this:
- Set a timer for 5 minutes
- Get in a comfortable seated or lying position
- Close your eyes if that’s comfortable. If not, keep your eyes cracked open and hold a soft gaze. Light a candle and stare at the flame if that works.
- Inhale for a count of 4, hold your breath at the top for a count of 4, exhale for a count of 4, hold the breath again for a count of 4, repeat. Like a box. This is called box breathing. Do this for 5 minutes.
- When thoughts come to your mind, as they will and sometimes at a million miles an hour, think of them as clouds drifting in the sky and let them float along. Return your focus to your breath.

Congrats. You just meditated. And did a breathwork practice.
10. Practice gratitude:
When you focus on the positive, it’s easier to let go of stress. Spend a few minutes each day thinking about the good shit in your life. This can help shift your perspective and increase your overall happiness. I do this while I shower.

These are just a few self-care practices that can help reduce stress and promote wellness. What works for you may vary, so find what works best and stick with it. Remember, taking care of yourself is not selfish — it’s essential so you don’t become a huge doucher in society! When you’re feeling stressed out, take a step back and focus on taking care of yourself.
It’ll do wonders for your mind, body, soul, and people who have to deal with you on a regular basis.
